“AS YOU, SHROUDED, ON JANUARY MORNINGS ALONGSIDE THE BRAZIER SUFFER PAIN IN YOUR SIDE, I GO, UNBUTTONED, FROM THE DOCK TO THE SEAFRONT. ALICANTE IS WITHOUT QUESTION LA MILLOR TERRA DEL MON” Today’s tour begins with these verses of the Marquis of Molíns, Don Mariano Roca y Togores. The poet sang Alicante’s virtues to the whole world and so, since then, it has been known to all as “the best land in the world”. On a slope of Monte Benacantil is “LA ERETA” PARK, with an exhibition hall, a workshop area, children’s games and, during the summer months, cultural itineraries which, in an hour and a half, explain the wealth of the heritage of the park and its environs. And should you be hungry after so much activity, there is an excellent restaurant at which to get your strength back. Our route continues from La Montañeta square, surrounded by a variety of official buildings like the Government Deputy-Delegation or the Ministry of Finance. Calle Ángel Lozano, alongside the square, is a good point to begin an intensive day of shopping. A few metres from here, we invite to go to CALLE DEL TEATRO, another traditional Alicante commercial zone par excellence. Around the streets of Médico Pascual Pérez or Navas, you will find shoe shops, boutiques or hairdressers for all tastes, as far as Plaza Nueva, which has a small aquarium. We’re going to make things difficult for you: to select the most appropriate evening dress in the area of greatest concentration of bridal and haute couture shops anywhere in the city. Take your time, along calles GERONA and BAZÁN. You're sure to find what you're looking for. Here we are close to BALMIS SQUARE, a little jewel of Modernism, and GABRIEL MIRÓ SQUARE where a stop is compulsory. Barely 50 metres on we strike the EXPLANADA DE ESPAÑA, the city’s true icon, with its singular paving of 6,600,000 pieces, reproducing in three-colour marble the gentle surge of the sea, along its nearly 500 metres. At the end of the esplanade, turn left at the splendid CASA CARBONELL into calle Gravina, the site of the GRAVINA MUSEUM, then continue further down calle San Agustín, ending finally at the LOS BELENES MUSEUM.
